This project provides a structured and integrated response to the growing gap between digital skills and economic opportunities among youth in Kenya by equipping 200 marginalized young people with practical digital competencies, mentorship, and innovation support to expand income opportunities and create meaningful youth-led ventures.
Current approximations place people under 35 at 70% and below 25 at 60%. These numbers continue growing, with the major challenge being unemployment due to low workforce absorption rates. Low internet access sits at an approximate 27 - 29%, while mobile bandwidth has grown, a significant user gap persists. Unfortunately, in Kenya, these digital opportunities are accessed by youth living in urban areas. Without intervention, the digital divide will widen economic inequality even further.
By combining technical training, entrepreneurship development, and leadership cultivation within a single framework, the project moves beyond basic digital literacy to focus on practical application and economic empowerment. The project integrates hands-on training in artificial intelligence, digital productivity tools, cybersecurity awareness, and digital marketing with mentorship and guided project development.
In long term, this project will build a pipeline of digitally competent, economically empowered, and socially responsible youth leaders. Equipping youths with both practical and technical skills, the project contributes to sustainable livelihoods, leading to less dependency on traditional income-generating activities. It will also stimulate the local digital innovation spaces and create technological tools that respond to community challenges and contribute to a generation that builds solutions.
