While our community responds to increasing numbers of coronavirus cases, the Virgin Islands Children's Museum remains closed to keep our visitors and staff safe.
Our service to the community continues.
Through our partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program, 756 children on the islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John are receiving high quality children's books in the mail each month.
We distributed 100 At Home Discovery Kits to low-income families in the territory through Nana Baby Children's Home, the Long Path Community Center, and Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands. The kits were different for different age levels, but each contained activity books, crayons, chalk, coloring sheets, early reader books, and stickers.
Additional partners have come on board for our Cultural Ambassadors project. We are developing short video segments, hosted by museum staff, on topics of Virgin Islands historical and cultural interest. Our local public television station, WTJX, is working with us to film and broadcase the segments. The Virgin Islands Departments of Education's Office of Cultural Education will provide assistance with verifying the accuracy and cultural relevance of the content presented.
We miss seeing our museum patron families so much! It's heartbreaking to have to continue our temporary closure, but we continue to plan to still be an important resource for Virgin Islands families.
