Help Dogs and Community Public Health in Kenya

Once again in 2025, Vet Treks team returned to Kenya. Our mission was to help train the next generation of Kenyan veterinary professionals, on a platform of service to communities in need.

Working with local veterinarians, we provided rabies vaccinations for 736 dogs, cats, and donkeys, and sterilized 317 dogs and cats were safely sterilized. We worked with 16 senior veterinary interns, upskilling them in surgical technique and teaching our model of high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter, so they can carry this work forward in their own communities.

At the conclusion of the campaign, more then $25,000 worth of surgical equipment, medications, and supplies were donated to the KSPCA, the Community Animal Health Initiative, and the University of Egerton School of Veterinary Medicine Surgery Department - tools that will continue to serve animals in communities of need. 

Looking toward 2026 and beyond, Vet Treks is pursuing a range of promising avenues - both in Kenya and in other underserved regions - to continue building sustainable veterinary capacity. Even as international regulatory environments evolve, our purpose remains clear: empower local veterinarians through advanced training, donated equipment and supplies, and ongoing professional support. Because of your partnership, Vet Treks will continue to grow, adapt, and serve where the need is greatest. 

In May 2025, our Vet Treks team returned to Kenya with a mission: protect animals, strengthen communities, and help to train the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Over the course of the campaign, 736 dogs, cats, and donkeys received life-saving rabies vaccinations—helping to stop a disease that threatens both animals and people. 317 dogs and cats were safely sterilized, reducing the number of unwanted litters and easing the strain on local resources. And 16 senior veterinary interns trained side-by-side with our team, mastering our model of high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter so they can carry this work forward in their own communities.

When the campaign concluded, we left behind more than memories. $25,000 worth of surgical equipment, medications, and supplies were donated to the KSPCA, the Community Animal Health Initiative, and the University of Egerton School of Veterinary Medicine Surgery Department - tools that will serve thousands of animals long after we’ve gone home.

This year’s work builds on nearly two decades of commitment. Over 17 years and nine campaigns in Kenya, Vet Treks has performed more than 1,200 sterilization surgeries, rabies vaccinated almost 8,000 animals, trained 170 veterinarians and students, and donated over $40,000 in essential veterinary supplies.

Every number tells a story - of healthier animals, safer communities, and a stronger veterinary network in Kenya. And with planning already underway for our 2026 campaign, the story is far from over.
