Low-income families and senior citizens in Ventura County are left without FEMA aid following historic flash-flooding in December 2023. Over 400 homes were flooded, including 50 homes destroyed, and families are unable to recover without flood insurance or additional assistance. Donations will go directly to families impacted by the flooding.
In December 2023, a flash flood made landfall in Ventura County, dropping nearly 3.25 inches of rain in just 45 minutes. Over 400 homes took in water, and 650 vehicles were damaged/destroyed. However, the community did not qualify for FEMA aid because it didn't reach their threshold of 1,200 destroyed structures to deploy aid. The majority of the victims of the flooding were low-income families and senior citizens, many of whom don't have flood insurance and are left with few recovery options.
1. Emergency Relief: Immediate assistance, including food, clothing and temporary shelter 2. Home Restoration: Funding will go towards remediating mold and restoring damaged homes 3. Community Support: Establish support networks for seniors affected, including access to healthcare, transportation and counseling services
After immediate need has been addressed for residents, we hope to build resiliency in our community by supporting initiatives to prevent disasters like this from happening in the future. We will work together to implement measures that reduce the risk of such devastation happening again.
