Venezuela's recent earthquakes have caused devastation beyond physical destruction, bringing fear, displacement, and uncertainty to families. Children are especially vulnerable, having lost their routines, homes, and sense of safety. Provive will provide socio-emotional support in Aragua, Caracas and La Guaira through 2 hour group sessions in safe spaces, using the Alive to the World curriculum to restore hope and emotional well-being, with referrals to specialized services when needed.
For the children, exposure to such traumatic events can lead to anxiety, emotional distress, behavioral difficulties, and long-term impacts on learning, relationships, and healthy development. Access to mental health and psychosocial services in Venezuela is limited, leaving children's emotional recovery largely unattended. Teachers and caregivers are themselves affected and lack the tools to help the children. There is an urgent need for accessible, community-based socio-emotional support
Provive will provide weekly two-hour socio-emotional support sessions in shelters, and other safe spaces. Using the evidence-based Alive to the World curriculum, and interactive activities (games, art, sports) trained facilitators will create supportive environments where children can express their emotions, rebuild a sense of safety, and develop hope, empathy and healthy coping skills. Activities will also identify children needing specialized care and refer them to appropriate services.
Beyond the immediate response, the project leaves a sustainable legacy by equipping facilitators with practical tools to continue providing socio-emotional support after the emergency phase. The group-session methodology developed for this intervention will become a permanent complement to the AtW curriculum, providing safer, more supportive learning environments that permanently strengthen children's well-being, resilience, and capacity to face future crises and promoting community response.
