Woodside Special Care Centre is a 24 hour residential care facility for 80 intellectually and physically challenged children and young adults. 20% of them receive visitations from family and friends regularly, however, there is a large number that is completely dependent on the staff and volunteers at Woodside. Our current vehicle is only able to take 8 residents out at any given time because of the need to be transported with wheelchairs and buggies. This vehicle is also used for hospital visit
The vehicle we use is currently used for daily hospital visits and check-ups, emergencies and outings. it is in need of repair and replacement. Only 8 children can go out on an outing at any given time and we would like to include the number of children to at least 12-15 so that they are able to experience life other than that of a residential care facility
More residents can experience social activities which will decrease their level of boredom. It will also allow them to be calmer and to feel more loved and appreciated. It will improve their quality of life and ultimately their health.
Improved quality of life. More socialisation. Less challenging behaviour. Improved well being. Better health. Less infections and illnesses.
