October and November were months full of exiting events! Including the Colour Run, Liga de Deportes and Festival de Arte!
The Colour Run
The Colour Run took place on the 9th of October in Parque Bicentenario! Together with the children of all the residential homes we participated and enjoyed it a lot! For the ones who are not sure what the Colour Run is, it is a running competition of 5k. However, it is not just "a normal run", as the name says its full of colours. All the runners receive a bag of powder and throughout the run there are 5 points to throw even more colours! You end up looking like a rainbow, and the children loved it! At the end, the event ends with the famous "colour explosion"! For the children this was truly an amazing experience they will not soon forget!
Liga de Deportes
During the last two months we hosted two "Liga's". In October we organized a "Halloween themed liga" with different Halloween games and brought facepaint! This was a great opportunity to get to know Halloween and play sports at the same time! On November 21st we hosted another "Liga" and this time we had a "dance theme", highly valued by all the children. We taught the children dancing routines and ended with dancing to Waka Waka! For this year this Volunteer Program has ended, but in 2018, new sports events will be organized. We and the children are looking forward to them!
Festival de Arte
On the 24th of November we had an arts festival for the children! The children prepared drawings, arts and crafts such as 3D objects and all of their artwork was exposed in an exposition. This year we had "Dream" theme (Mis sueños) and many drawings portrayed dreams. However, we also made dreamcatchers with the children and made different 3D objects. We ended with a show full of performances, such as dancing and singing. It was a great success and the children were rewarded with prices at the end.
As 2018 is approaching, we hosted the last event of Life Skills, and are busy preparing for the new interns and interns coming in. We are also busy preparing Vamos a Leer one of our Volunteer Programs which will kick of in January! The 6th of December we had a huge fundraiser event "Wine and Burgers". People got to enjoy hamburgers, wine, live music and we had organized a raffle with some amazing prices! We are very happy and thankful for all the donations which are all of great support to us! We are looking forward to new events and Christmas time!
