By Mercedes Henderson | Executive Director
Hello VE Friends and Family,
24h Campaign!
On July 12th-13th we had our annual 24h campaign. This year, thus far, has been one of great changes, the biggest of which being undoubtedly the arrival of Mercedes Henderson as our new Executive Director, marking the beginning of a new era. Here at VE, we see change as an opportunity; an opportunity to do better, to reach further and to have an enduring impact on the lives of the children we care for. With more than 13.000 dollars raised - and even more in matching donations - you have validated our project. You allow us to continue working with youth at social risk in Santiago and develop our organization for another year. Thank you for your support!
Programs News
In other news, our life skills program ¡Soy Independiente! is now fully underway. Three groups of 42 eager young adults meet twice a week to participate in life skills workshops and discuss their future independent adult lives. So far, the program has been a wonderful experience for both monitors and youth. Each participant brings a positive and determined attitude to the table, proving to us once more that this program serves the purpose we envisioned. Thank you for allowing us to continue our work!
Volunteers in Training
Our May starters are now more than halfway through their volunteer experience and as such, our traditional Jornada took place. The whole staff, interns and volunteers of VE, with a special appearance from Pablo Jorquera, member of our Chilean board of directors, spent the weekend of July 1st outside Santiago in Hijuelas. Fun team-building exercises and dedicated time for self-reflection helped us get to know each other more and allowed us to reflect on how our personal and professional goals have evolved throughout the past two months.
Un abrazo from Santiago!
