Just recently, on April 21, we held our biannual Festival de Arte. Close to 30 children came to the event from two of our partner organizations, Hogar San Francisco de Regis and Hogar Fundación Pléyades in Santiago. The theme for this Festival was Nuestro Mundo or Our World!
We know how important it is for the children to be able to express creativity, as well as academic skills, so we have Festival de Arte to celebrate both! In the months leading up to Festival our volunteers hold workshops where the children have fun drawing, painting, making 3D art and much more.
At each festival there is a performance from the current volunteers and interns, followed by performances from the children and their tíos and tías. This Festival included a variety of games, choreographed dancing, lots of singing, a theatrical production and a fashion show!
After the performances, we enjoyed some delicious snacks and our judges carefully chose the winning pieces of art from each category. They were so impressed with all of the pieces and with the variety of ideas the children came up with. Many of the children won special prizes, but in the end everyone received a gift!
We are excited to receive our new volunteers for the May class and start planning the next Festival de Arte. It is always such an inspiration to see the children’s creativity shine through!
