What`s New With VE?

By Samantha Schindelheim | Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Yoga was the theme of this month’s Liga de Deportes, our monthly health and wellness league that offers children a safe outlet to engage in sports, while building their self-esteem and knowledge about healthy living. María Jose Fuentes, our Board Treasurer, taught the children different stretches and breathing techniques. It was a nice change from the faster-paced sports they are accustomed to. In addition to yoga,VE volunteers set up volleyball and soccer games for the children after enjoying a healthy lunch.

We closed Liga de Deportes with a trivia game that quizzed the children on some of the yoga facts that María Jose mentioned during the session and were listed on posters around the gym. Those who answered the questions correctly took home some great prizes, such as art supplies and board games. The children also received a snack bag to eat on their trip home.

Next month, we will be hosting our biannual Festival de Arte to celebrate the artwork the children and volunteers created together. Festival de Arte provides a supportive space to build children’s confidence and show off their creativity. This time around, the theme is recycled art. Check back next month to see what creations they made using egg cartons, cereal boxes, yogurt cups, and many other recycled materials!
