This past month we threw two celebrations to recognize the successes of the children we serve!
In the middle of February, VE rewarded 10 children for their excellent participation throughout the past year in our sports program, Liga de Deportes, by taking them to Parque Acuatico El Idilio, a water park outside of Santiago. The children enjoyed riding down water slides in tubes and swimming down the lazy river. They also had a picnic of avocado and cheese sandwiches, fruit, and cookies at the park. Thank you YMCA of Maine for donating funds for this awesome field trip!
Last week, we celebrated the end of our literacy program, ¡Vamos a Leer!, by hosting Carnaval. It was an exciting celebration to provide the children with a sense of individual achievement for their efforts toward improving their reading proficiency during the summer months. Thirty-two children swam, played fun games such as Penny Toss and Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and enjoyed a tasty lunch at a community center called COMUDEF Balneario in Santiago, Chile.

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Hogar Posada del Niño! Around thirty boys between the ages of 5 and 18 live here due to placement by the Chilean family court system. Five VE volunteers have just begun engaging the boys in workshops and programs and will continue to provide them with outlets to stimulate their minds in fun and creative ways.

¡Este mes llevamos a cabo dos celebraciones especiales para reconocer los logros de los niños con los cuales trabajamos!
A mediados de febrero, 10 niños recibieron un premio especial por su excelente participación en nuestro programa Liga de Deportes. Fueron de paseo al Parque Acuático El Idilio en las afueras de Santiago. Los niños disfrutaron mucho de los toboganes de agua y de nadar en el río tranquilo. También tuvieron un delicioso picnic en el parque con sándwiches de palta y queso, frutas y galletas. ¡Agradecemos mucho el apoyo del YMCA de Southern Maine que hizo posible esta excursión muy divertida!
La semana pasada, celebramos el fin de nuestro programa de lectura, ¡Vamos a Leer!, con Carnaval. Fue un evento emocionante, brindándoles a los niños un sentido de logro personal por sus esfuerzos de mejorar su nivel de lectura durante el verano. Treinta dos niños nadaron, jugaron juegos divertidos como Lanzar la Moneda y Ponerle la Cola al Burro además de disfrutar de un almuerzo delicioso en el centro recreativo del COMUDEF en Santiago, Chile.

¡Nos encanta compartir unas noticias de nuestra nueva colaboración con Hogar Posada del Niño! Aproximadamente treinta niños entre 5 y 18 años viven allí debido a la derivación desde el sistema de tribunales de familia. Cinco voluntarios de VE comenzaron recientemente a trabajar con ellos en nuestros programas, que les brindan oportunidades tales como paseos y talleres para estimular sus mentes de forma divertida y creativa.
