As part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration, VIMA 2019 was filled with spectacular productions, exceptional music instruction, and participants from around the globe.  Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • VIMA presented 3 MULTI-CAST, FULLY-STAGED OPERASwith professional orchestras in over 20 PERFORMANCES. Participants performed in Mozart’s GREAT MASS IN C MINOR, Bernstein’s CANDIDE, Puccini’s SUOR ANGELICA & GIANNI SCHICCHI, and Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE. Other performances included INSTRUMENTAL CONCERTS, a LIEDERABEND RECITAL, and the GIFT OF AMERICAN SONG.

 

  • Maestro Gregory Buchalter of the NY METROPOLITAN OPERAreturned as conductor for VIMA 2019. VIMA was thrilled to have Marek Ruszczynski of the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE as well as faculty from VIENNA, ENGLAND, JAPAN, BULGARIA and 6 US UNIVERSITIES.

 

  • Throughout the 4-week program, VIMA’s faculty taught masterclasses and voice lessons, and VIMA introduced new classes in MOVEMENT AND STAGE TECHNIQUESand FELDENKRAIS TECHNIQUES.The number of participants DOUBLED from VIMA 2018. Participants hailed from 17 US STATES and 9 COUNTRIES. VIMA awarded over $42,000 in scholarships to 29 well-deserving participants. Faculty provided 4000 HOURS of exceptional music instruction, and over 230 ACTIVITIES were scheduled during VIMA, including performances, rehearsals, masterclasses, coachings, voice lessons, celebratory dinners, sightseeing excursions, and more.

 

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2020?

  • VIMA 2020 is adding a full-fledged MUSICAL THEATERprogram which will culminate in a semi-staged production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s A Grand Night for Singing.

  •  VIMA is currently in negotiations to perform Die Fledermaus at the STARA ZAGORA OPERA HOUSE.

  •  The COLORADO SPRINGS YOUTH SYMPHONYasked us to organize their 30-year anniversary tour to Greece and Bulgaria. As part of this 3-week tour, they will attend VIMA and learn from the masters in an unparalleled educational opportunity.

  •  VIMA 2020 hopes to over double its 2019 scholarship fund and award over $100,000 in scholarships.

  • VIMA has partnered with SAKAI CITY OPERA in Japan to provide scholarships for students to attend VIMA.
