The "Let's Breastfeed" (Vamos dar de Mamar) project is an initiative by the Ajuda de Mãe association, established in 2010 to provide comprehensive support for breastfeeding families. The project aligns with global health standards by utilizing professionals trained in breastfeeding counseling according to WHO/UNICEF (United Nations) guidelines.
Project Objectives and Activities
Core Goals: The project aims to increase the number of women practicing exclusive breastfeeding until six months and maintaining it for at least two years.
Support Services: It offers face-to-face support in various offices across Lisbon and Tagus Valley, as well as home visits to assist with technical issues like latching, positioning, and breast engorgement.
Helplines: Support is accessible through mobile and fixed telephone lines, WhatsApp, and social media platforms to ensure continuous assistance for parents.
Education: The team conducts training for health professionals and workshops for parents to acquire practical breastfeeding strategies and clarify common myths.

Since its inception in 2011, the project has provided nearly 7,000 home supports and answered over 30,000 calls, demonstrating its vital role in promoting maternal and child health.
