The project originates from the hardships and laborious work the youth go through when processing their farm produce using traditional methods like grinding on stones and pounding in mortars.they move long distances to access processing machines. We would like to install a maize mill and maize hurler to produce quality products to compete on market for increased quality and quantity food production for home consumption and marketability to increase family income and also produce enough food
There is generational poverty hitting youths because they never went to school due to lack of school dues and cultural beliefs and norms letting the youths to marry early even to partners who are not of their choice. As a result, there is increased divorce and cases of fistula resulting from using by unskilled midwives who are culturally agreed to do the work. Those who divorce, are left to look after their children alone with out support from the parents and the former husbands.
The project will create employment for the targeted youths through selling their good quality produce in markets for improved prices thus getting good profits.The revenue collected from the machines will be loaned to members to invest in business to get profit that will assist them to meet their essential needs.Youths will learn how to work together and will gain recognition from the community thus increasing their self esteem.Services will be brought near the people for increased use.
Some youths will go back to school to acquire more skills for self reliance and their children will get education for employment to support their parents in the future.They will also advocate for changed policies to discard the negative cultural norms which impact negatively on the lives of the youths.The energy used to grind on stones and pounding in mortars will be saved and converted to more productive activities which will benefit the community.
