Animal Balance will be heading to Trinidad for the first time this month to sterilize and vaccinate cats and dogs on the island. This project is close to our hearts, as it is the first time we will be working on the home island of our dear friend, veterinarian and Board Member, Dr. Raymond. We are joined in this project by local group, Animals 360. There is a great need for these services on Trinidad and we are eager to help improve the lives of animals there.
With limited access to basic veterinary care, spay/neuter, and vaccinations, cats and dogs on Trinidad suffer as a result of overpopulation and exposure to preventable disease. Unsterilized animals reproduce at high rates in the warm climates and there are too many animals to be properly cared for. As a result, cats and dogs are subject to inhumane treatment and suffering.
By providing free sterilization and vaccination services to the community, Animal Balance works to humanely control the cat and dog population, and ignite social change to improve the lives of all species that call the island home. The impact on the animals currently living in the community is immediate by preventing future litters of kittens and puppies, and preventing outbreaks of preventable diseases through vaccination.
Animal Balance works with local partner groups to establish long-term, sustainable solutions through training, mentorship and continued support in the region. We hope that this campaign will be the first of many to help our island partners develop future programs and increase their capacity for high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter. As access to these services becomes more readily available, we see the quality of life improve for animals and social change occur in the area.
