The youth network against child sexual exploitation has reached Guatemala!
After six years carrying out the campaign in Uruguay, Claves has had the opportunity to share this methodology with youth and non-profit organizations in Guatemala.
In November, the campaign methodology was shared as part of a comprehensive project to prevent the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Guatemalan territory.
Guatemala is a country particularly vulnerable to human trafficking. Its geographical position facilitates the transit and destination for trafficking. In 2017, 460 potential victims of trafficking were identified, a figure that has been decreasing in recent years.
The project focuses on prevention activities in the departments of Guatemala, Escuintia and Sacatepéquez; identified as areas of high risk of commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.
The first actions of the campaign were carried out with the participation of 40 youth and adult mentors in the tourist destination of Antigua. There, adolescents trained in the methodology and went out to raise awareness of this issue among tourists and local residents.
