Teens from the Sebastopol Youth Center in Montevideo film the music video "What side are you on?" which deals with gender violence in dating relationships. The song was written by teens in the music workshop at the Youth Center in the context of the public awareness campaign. According to teen participant Luana, the inspiration for the song comes from what the teens see in the street, in the houses, and in the neighborhood.
The song seeks to promote empathy, respect and fair and caring interactions within dating relationships. The lyrics are a call to raise awareness among those that might be experiencing violence and not realize it:
If he insults you,
If he yells at you,
If he makes fun of you,
If he controls you,
If he hits you,
If he humiliates you,
If he doesn't respect you,
You're suffering violence.
The filming was supported by Claves through the "Uruguay against child sexual exploitation" campaign, INAU, Montevideo Joven and the Eduardo Mateo Foundation.
We invite you to watch the music video and share it with friends!
