This report covers the progress of Conservation Through Public Health’s (CTPH) project (#52950) on GlobalGiving “Urgent Action to curb COVID to people and gorillas”.

At the time of the last report, the project had raised $18,036 of the $30,000 funding goal. To date, the project has raised $20,901.68. In total the project has 119 donations from 64 donors, 3 monthly donors and 1 fundraiser.

What we have done

Village COVID-19 Taskforce (VCTF) members have continued to be on standby to attend to any COVID-19 emergencies. Thankfully, there were no COVID-19 cases reported in the villages around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (BINP) during the reporting period. They have also continued to sensitize people on how to reduce zoonotic disease transmission among people and from people to mountain gorillas and other wildlife.

Our gorilla health monitoring team has continued to collect gorilla fecal samples, analysing them to check for any diseases that they could be sharing with the neighboring community members including other viruses, as well as parasites and bacteria. This includes observing all the habituated gorillas to check for clinical signs of illness.

To date, 747 gorilla fecal samples have been collected and analysed through CTPH's routine gorilla health monitoring.

We would like to thank GlobalGiving and all the individual donors for the continued support to protecting mountain gorillas and supporting the communities living around the gorillas’ habitat of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
