The earthquake has caused widespread destruction across western Colombia, affecting communities including Choco, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda and Caldas. Homes and buildings have collapsed, vital infrastructure has been damaged and communities are facing an urgent need for assistance. Hundreds of people have been injured and more than 100 people have tragically lost their lives, with the full impact of the disaster still unfolding.
For families who have lost their homes and belongings, the immediate priority is safety, shelter and access to essential supplies. For children, the impact of a disaster can be particularly devastating, disrupting their education, wellbeing and sense of security. We have been working in Choco for more than six years and have established relationships with trusted local partners in affected communities. This local presence means we are well placed to listen and reach communities.
Your donation can help support: Emergency supplies for families who have lost their homes or been displaced, Food and essential items for communities facing immediate shortages, Health and hygiene supplies to help protect families during the emergency, Psychosocial support for children and caregivers experiencing trauma, loss and displacement. Early recovery and rebuilding helps children and families begin to restore stability once immediate emergency needs have been met.
