On 10 August 2026, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicentre near San Jose del Palmar in the department of Choco. The earthquake has caused widespread destruction across western Colombia, affecting communities including Choco, Valle del Cauca, Risaralda and Caldas. Homes and buildings have collapsed, vital infrastructure has been damaged and communities are facing an urgent need for assistance.
