It is an urgent appeal to save girls in Rajasthan, India, from commercial sex work. Parents in this community force their minor daughters to practice age-old custom of sex work to generate income for the family. Kiran, Pooja, Anita and Aliya have aspirations to build their career. The fundraiser will support their education for two years in a premier education and boarding school and keep them safe from traffickers
COVID-19 has effectively pushed back several years of development work, making more and more families vulnerable. The lesser sources of income, force the families to pull out their children from schools and involve them in paid work. While the situation is the same across villages around the country, it is slightly more complex for girls from the Nat community in Rajasthan where they are forced into the sex trade as soon as they hit puberty. The pandemic has made the situation even direr.
iPartner India has so far been able to prevent more than 50 girls from being trafficked by sending them to a premier education and boarding facility where their safety was assured, with the consent of the parents. The pandemic has made families more vulnerable due to a lack of income. Four more young girls are now on the verge of being sent for commercial sex work in Mumbai. Your support will save four girls to continue their education and build careers of their choice in a safe space.
Kiran is in grade 9 and wants to become a doctor. She wants girls in her village to have access to better healthcare facilities. Pooja is in grade 11 and has always been ambitious about her future. She wants to be a teacher and does not want to survive the fate of her aunts who are in Mumbai in the sex trade. Pooja and Kiran can transform their lives, build their career and achieve their potential through your support and would break the vicious cycle of intergenerational forced sex work.
