Mobility that offers social distancing
As we face this global Covid-19 lock-down, we realize how much we miss spending time outdoors: walking, running, biking…
Cities that lack public space, and particularly those in low-income communities and in overcrowded homes and neighborhoods have become increasingly aware of the need for space to breathe and keep social distancing. Public transit has become a focal point for contagion and private vehicles are not an option for many, particularly those in lower-income brackets.
Preparing for the new normal in our cities will become paramount to ensure that people have access to public space and mobility that offers social distancing.
Rutas Naturbanas does just that: we regenerate ecosystems in neglected riverbanks, we create public space and a sustainable and clean urban mobility corridor that will support over 600 thousand people in the capital region.
Help us create safe and healthy spaces and infrastructure in San José, Costa Rica. Help us support healthcare and vital care service workers in getting around, to allow people to get to work and minimize contagion. Help us inspire and replicate this project across many other cities in the developing world who are looking for proven and reachable urban interventions that can help solve our health and that of our planet.
These are challenging times for us all, and right now, we keep doing everything possible to sustain daily operations and continue to regenerate and renew urban rivers, their ecosystems and make them accessible to enable 25km of shared-use paths.
While there’s a lot of uncertainty, we need to adapt fast to our changing reality and climate change will not stop without environmental resilience and protection. Now, more than ever, our planet needs us. And we need you.
