Volunteers Installing Electrical Tubing
The Talara Health Centre is the main establishment of the Talara Micro Network meaning it is open 24 hours a day and in the highest classification of clinics allowing them a larger quantity of services and medical equipment. With a population of over 54,000 people reliant on this centre and overflow patients from nearby localities sent here, the reliance on allotted vaccines is extremely important despite the unreliable electricity provisions.
In the past few months we have met with the medical staff to determine the priority areas of the clinic which were determined to be the coolers, pharmacy, emergency department, and obstetrics. Additionally, our team inspected the electrical system determining that there is an extreme lack of capacity and dangers including poor repairs and cables that burn and spark.
In January the EcoSwell team installed new conduits, conductors, switches, and proper outlets to create a conduction system in better condition. Electrical tubes were installed on the roof to prepare for the solar panel installation. Additionally our renewables supervisor, Hugo, conducted an analysis of the site to determine the optimal location for the solar panels.
After ensuring the infrastructure is complete we are looking forward to being able to install the solar panels in the near future and begin to train the staff on the utilization of this new power system!
