Maisha by nisria is a non-profit fashion and design studio nestled in Nakuru Kenya. Maisha specializes in crafting authentic, handmade garments from ethically repurposed materials, advocating for a sustainable and conscious approach to fashion. Our mission is to empower possibilities for vulnerable people in our community by equipping them with skills in fashion and design to enable them to make their way out of care as independent adults.
Kenya is struggling with a surplus of textile waste as well as people living in poverty. Our program overlaps these two issues to create positive change. About one-third of all garments are plastic waste that will disintegrate into particles polluting the soil and the ocean. Our Maisha upcycling program makes use of these materials while providing skills and jobs to local residents.
Our Maisha by nisria program is a fashion and design studio nestled in Nakuru, Kenya. Our Maisha Workshop provides skills training and experience in the fashion industry. This includes an entrepreneurship incubator program that provides mentorship, resources, and micro-funding to Maisha graduates who aspire to launch their fashion businesses.
By empowering vulnerable individuals under our nisria programs with technical fashion skills and business knowledge through intensive training in high-end upcycling, creativity, and innovation, we equip them to build sustainable livelihoods once they transition from our program. Additionally, maisha by nisria aims to grow its program and sales from the project will act as a revenue stream for other programs serving low-income and vulnerable women and children.
