The Unlocking Youth Potential project will empower 300 vulnerable youth from Kibera, Busia, and Kisumu through education and skills development. The program will provide vocational training, life skills, and entrepreneurship education to equip youth with the tools to secure jobs or start their businesses. Over 12 months, 70% of participants will be linked to employment or business opportunities, fostering long-term economic growth and reducing poverty in these communities.
Youth in Kibera, Kisumu, & Busia face severe challenges, including high unemployment, poverty, and limited access to quality education and skills training. In Kibera, overcrowding and economic hardship restrict opportunities. Kisumu's youth face a mismatch between education and job market needs, while Busia struggles with rural poverty and early school dropout. These barriers leave many young people without pathways to employment or entrepreneurship, perpetuating cycles of poverty, hopelessness
This project will equip 300 youth from Kibera, Kisumu, and Busia with practical skills through vocational training, life skills coaching, and entrepreneurship education. By focusing on market-driven skills like ICT, tailoring, agribusiness, and small business management, the project will prepare youth for employment or self-employment. Mentorship, job linkages, and startup support will ensure long-term success, helping break the cycle of poverty and unlocking economic opportunities.
The project will create lasting change by equipping youth with skills that lead to stable income, self-reliance, and improved livelihoods. As 300 youth gain employment or start businesses, they will contribute to local economies and reduce dependency. Their success can inspire peers, creating a ripple effect of empowerment. Over time, communities in Kibera, Kisumu, and Busia will see reduced poverty, lower crime rates, and greater youth participation in economic and civic development.
