Our incredible University Computer Assistive Project lifeline project by inABLE has stalled due to insufficient funds. Our total goal is $20,000 and we need your help to make this possible and impact and equip visually impaired Kenyan law students with laptops fully equipped with assistive technology tools to help them maximize on research.

Additionally, inABLE computer instructors will train and share with them vital digital skills and best practices for an enhanced learning experience as they use their laptops.

Assistive technology in this case refers to software tools that would make access to information on digital devices pretty easy including screen readers, that turn written content into speech that’s accessible.

These laptops will reduce the reliance on Braille being the primary medium for submitting assignments and completing exams. Braille is a beautiful language that allows people with visual impairments to access content; however, the Braille dots become less tactile over time. Braille translation is needed so that the content is accessible to everyone. Yet, with these laptops, students will have enhanced digital accessibility and the power of the internet as they learn, research, and connect with their peers, locally and internationally. These laptops will also prepare them for the real world where braille is not really common in the workspaces.

This project is very close to our hearts because it’s a critical tool that will help blind law students reach their full potential in their academic and professional life. Each student will pass the baton by uplifting and guiding the next generation of lawyers who will help shape the face of disability rights in Kenya, Africa, and internationally. It will also help us reduce the digital divide between the visually impaired and the sighted.

We all need to work together to foster an inclusive and accessible world for all.

We are grateful for all the support we have received so far, and we would like to urge everyone who can donate to this worthy cause and we promise to keep you updated.  Thank you!
