In response to the 2021 earthquake that devastated the south of Haiti, IOM was able to quickly deliver essential relief items to 800 affected households thanks to the dispatch of IOM global stocks from Panama. These stocks were delivered to Haiti in just fifteen days at a cost of 76,000 US dollars representing significant cost and time savings, as purchasing from international suppliers would have taken over 55 days to ship by sea or cost 268,000 US dollars to ship by air. As local procurement options were limited in terms of quality standards, IOM’s global stocks, which undergo strict quality controls, offered a high-quality solution to the IOM office in Haiti. The IOM Common Pipeline Request Tracking System, was also implemented in this response, for the first time following a sudden onset disaster. Over forty partner organizations in Haiti registered to the Common Pipeline Request Tracking System and distributions of relief items were coordinated through five partner organizations in response to the earthquake.
