Years of war in Ukraine have left children in institutional care among the most at-risk and overlooked victims. There are about 650 residential institutions nationwide housing approximately 100,000 children. Many of these children have physical or learning disabilities, and many have no parents or guardians. As the war continues, many are unable to flee the violence and find refuge. These vulnerable children living in specialized institutions must not be forgotten.
We help orphanages cover their essential needs as state funding shrinks. In wartime, these facilities suffer even more. Institutionalized disabled children are highly vulnerable and often treated as an afterthought due to underfinancing. The situation has worsened as the war progresses and state funding priorities change. Orphanages cannot create adequate conditions for living and studying for their students; children don't get proper nutrition and have to live in poor conditions.
We help supply orphanages with diapers, hygiene and cleaning products, and stationery. We equip classrooms and buy mobility aids and nutritious food. BKC also assists with building and yard renovations to make them safe. Each orphanage has different needs. We answer those specific needs. As the war in Ukraine continues, we need to ensure that children residing in orphanages have the necessities and proper conditions to live and study. We aim to show these children that their lives matter.
Even if the invasion of Ukraine ended today, it will leave thousands of children orphaned. These children will rely on orphanages for survival. As a result, the need for proper functioning and equipped specialized institutions is urgent. By helping Bright Kids Charity provide the necessities for orphanages, you are sharing the message that these children matter, that their lives matter and that they have a chance for a brighter future. A caring environment and an education can change a life.
