Thank you to everyone who has supported our food security program in Uganda! We hope you will continue to follow our progress as we enable rural Ugandans to build food-secure futures for their communities.
In the first three quarters of 2009, our most recent reporting data, 25.7 tons of grain were stored in THP community food banks in Uganda. Four-hundred households in Kiboga Epicenter planted 38 hectares of cassava, and the epicenter nutrition project produced over 1,000 kg of nutritious porridge, which was then distributed to schools and communities, with a priority on reaching pregnant mothers. In partnership with Catholic Relief Services, another International NGO, THP planted 40 hectares of disease-resistant cassava plants in the Kiboga village-cluster. Finally, in partnership with local agricultural experts, THP staff distributed 4,000 kg of improved seeds to increase food production in the coming season.
Again thank you for your support - this important progress would not have been possible without your partnership. We will continue to update you as our work continues.
