Meeting Sunday O., a U-TOUCH Sponsored Student

My name is Sunday. I am a 17-year-old boy living in Gulu, northern Uganda and studying in high school. The sports I am playing include, rugby, and football. Some years back I lost both of my parents who were killed in the Lord’s Resistance Army War. Up to now my siblings (a sister and brother) and I are living with our grandmother. Our home is quite far from town and our dear beloved Deborah, founder of U-TOUCH has been there to see it. I sincerely hope that maybe one day you will come and see it too. Briefly, that’s what I can tell you about my humble family background. As for life, there are lots of developments going on in our district Gulu. For instance, the transition to a city status has brought many positive changes. Life, generally, is great here in our home district.

 ABOUT SCHOOL LIFE:

My education began at St Jude’s daycare when U-TOUCH found me and took me to Bright Valley Primary School. I worked hard, made many friends and graduated successfully. Like I mentioned, I now go to high school and I am in form three this year. I truly enjoy school because it’s shaping my future and also there are lots of activities like leadership, debating, games and sports. I enjoy the academics most while other things like games and sports come later. At our school, “O” level students offer thirteen subjects in senior one and two but on reaching senior three, there are few compulsory subjects and students are free to drop some of the subjects and choose a few optional ones to make them ten. I enjoy computers, Math, Geography, and English. I am struggling really hard because I want to become a pilot in the future. In leadership, I am proud to say that I am a leader in my school and I hold the position of dormitory captain whereas I also participate in sports as I am a team member in the school’s rugby team. I am proud to inform you that as a member of the rugby team, my school brought back the winning cup in 2014 and 2015.

While in the robotics training camp, I advanced my knowledge by being ever attentive and I am now able to repair spoiled radios and phones. I also attended training at the U-TOUCH Center where I gained skills in advanced technology and now enjoy creating apps. I want to use this knowledge to further my dream of being a pilot, for example, I am coming up with the skill of developing a plane and with your ever-present help, I know I can make it. I would also like to be able to support other orphans in the future. I dream of opening an orphanage one day in the future so that I can help the helpless little orphans of my nation. Thank you very much.

 APPRECIATION LETTER TO U-TOUCH

It’s with great joy and happiness that I am writing to you this day. My name is Sunday, a sponsored student under your care. Allow me to say how grateful I am for the great struggle you have made to put me through school since primary up until now. Words cannot begin to explain how grateful I am to you for your kind and loving heart towards a helpless boy like me. Now I can envision a hopeful future and it’s all because of you. May God greatly reward you Thank you very much.   Sunday O.

Sunday became a Sponsored Student at age five and U-TOUCH staff met him when he was six-years-old in Uganda July 2007. It was difficult to see the conditions in which Sunday was living and U-TOUCH was delighted to enroll Sunday in a boarding school to engage his bright mind and talents. It was difficult at first for Sunday to adjust to being away from his grandmother. He wanted to help and often returned home to work in the garden and ease her burden. As he grew older Sunday continued to feel responsible for his grandmother and tries to help her as much as possible while still focusing on his school work. From the first time the U-TOUCH team met Sunday, he expressed a desire to become a pilot, drawing airplanes in all his pictures. His passion has not waned and Sunday dreams of becoming a pilot. With the support of U-TOUCH, Sunday has studied in addition to his general education, advanced technology throughout the year, especially during school holiday breaks. He has been fully engaged at the U-TOUCH Center from morning until evening learning programming and creating “apps”. In fact, a local organization requested that he create an app for their farming project.

Though Sunday had a challenged childhood as an orphan, he has learned of his talents in technology and math. Through U-TOUCH support for both his education and advanced technology, Sunday’s self-esteem has greatly increased. He now recognizes his unique talents and skills he is gaining to help transform the possibilities for his future. Sunday has expressed his deep gratitude for your support providing him opportunities he would not have otherwise. He is excited about the innovations he is developing giving him a new lease on life with high-level motivation toward his future and the impact he will make on his family and community. Thank you for your caring loving support for Sunday. You are making a terrific difference in his life and that of all the sponsored students.

Please donate. You can help support Sunday to continue attending school this year!

Brilliance is equally distributed, opportunity is not. U-TOUCH through GlobalGiving brings OPPORTUNITY!

 With deepest gratitude,

Sunday, Deb and the U-TOUCH Team
