The U-TOUCH Uganda Education Project Sponsored Students of Northern Uganda are grateful for the educational support U-TOUCH has provided. It is only because of this support that 24 orphans have had the opportunity to attend school, have a bright future and help their families and communities advance.
These orphans survived horrific tragedies and loss in their families. Even though, each has a strong drive toward a dream for a bright future. Their path is a strong education and U-TOUCH is providing that opportunity for these 24 sponsored students. They have lived through the most difficult of times yet hold onto hope and looking forward and working hard to reach their goals. The sponsored students treasure their education and opportunity to learn. As a result they are top in their classes and schools. Please meet two of the U-TOUCH sponsored students whose glow from within is always evident on their entire being that they have this amazing educational opportunity for a bright future. U-TOUCH thier lives deeply.
“My name is Kevin. I was born on 11th September 1997. When I reached seven years, my father and mother died and I became an orphan. Then I started schooling when I was eight years in primary one. This was during the time when the insurgency in Northern Uganda was at its peak and I had no one to stay with and to take proper care of me. Fortunately, my aunt came to the village and took me and my brother to her home in town. My aunt would give us guidance and show us love and care. She taught us how to work in the house, washing clothes, cooking, sweeping the compound, gardening, and how to relate with our friends, relatives and neighbors. It was hard for me, going through tough times until U-TOUCH came to support me in school. I was in Primary four and with U-TOUCH support I reached Primary seven in 2012. I sat for my Primary exit exams and passed very well. I was then admitted to secondary school, in Gulu town. I have studied there for the past two years and now I’m in senior three this year. U-TOUCH has been so helpful and supportive of my life and education in particular. My school fees and scholastic materials have all been taken care of and that has made me to concentrate in school and do well. In the future, after my studies, I would like to become a teacher or businesswoman. From my business I would like to be able to support my family with their needs and pay school fees for other needy children, just like U-TOUCH is doing for me. I thank U-TOUCH so much for its continued support towards my education.”
Robert is joyful and most grateful for his education and graduation from Gulu University funded by U-TOUCH. Being such a fabulous teacher, as observed by the U-TOUCH team, his professors, and colleagues, Robert was immediatley hired to teach at a scondary school. After the loss of his father at the age of 10 Robert helped his mother raise his siblings. Being the eldest in his family, with his new employment, he can now support his siblings to attend school. Robert and his family now have opportunity for a bright future.
U-TOUCH has funded the education of 24 orphans with eight remaining. In the past three months, the students were afforded the opportunity to continue their education with the support of the U-TOUCH Uganda Education GlobalGiving Project. They have come to the U-TOUCH Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) in Gulu to gain computer skills and have access to the Internet and Skype with the U-TOUCH team and a group of high school students working hard to help support them as well. U-TOUCH communicates via email with the students and shares a U-TOUCH Sponsored Students Day with them annually in Uganda each August. The sponsored students are most grateful for their Gift of Education and their close relationship with the U-TOUCH team. They are looking forward to achieving their dream of a bright future and giving back to their communities as doctors, nurses, teachers, business owners, engineers and even a pilot. They are rich in motivation and are grateful to U-TOUCH and GlobalGiving for their support. It is apparent that Brilliance is equally distributed, Opportunity is not, though U-TOUCH is bringing that Opportunity!
With deep gratitude,
Deb and the U-TOUCH Team
The lives you change are the lives U-TOUCH!
