March 2023 Ugandan MPs passed the KILL THE GAY bill imposing the death penalty for homosexuality. As state and local governments move to enforce homophobic laws, we have received over 159 requests from those that have faced incidents including arrests, Evictions, attacks and sexual violence. This has in turn completely cut off access to health services and supply of other essentials like food. In addition, most have been left unemployed due to the hate campaigns.
Ugandan legislators passed the anti homosexuality bill 2023 which has increased constant threats to our safety, including brutal arrests, violence, and homophobic campaigns against the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda, These challenges have put LGBTIQ+ people at risk of family rejection, neglect, denial of health care, police brutality and threaten our basic human rights. This project will enable members to relocate to a safe space, facilitate paralegals to respond the life threatening issues
We will advocate for equality, provide safe homes, nutrition, and health care and be able to respond to all human rights violations to members at risk of attacks. Furthermore we will Bail for LGBTIQ+ people imprisoned Relocating in safer area, provide Emergency accommodation costs, mental health care and support, Legal and medical fees
The Mbarara RISE Foundation provides assistance and information about safety, security, and equal human rights for the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda. We continue the fight against laws that criminalize homosexuality.
