Udayan Shalini Fellowship Program (USF)
With an aim to develop the overall personality of our Udayan Shalini Fellows, Udayan Care organized a Residential Camps and quarterly workshop to hone their existing skills, improve their academic performance as well as build their capacity to stand for their rights
Residential Camp:
Leadership & Team Building echoed as the central theme of the USF Residential camp 2015.The camp saw the participation of 38 fellows from Delhi & Gurgaon centre. A six-day long camp from 26th May held at Jagshanti Udayan Ghar Greater Noida was a mixed bag of imparting knowledge and fun based exposure to team building. It began with 40 minutes Morning Exercise and then went on with Role Play, Ice-Breaking games, Self-awareness and Leadership workshops.
Mentor Mentee Meet
Mentor mentee meet was organised during the reporting period to discuss the academic progress and share their academic concerns of fellows with their respective mentors. It was a motivational meet where good performing fellows were motivated to do their best and others to improve their performance.
Quarterly Workshop
It was felt the incidences of verbal abuse and eve teasing are increasing day by day. Therefore, the workshop was organised with our fellow students to sensitize and empower them to fight back such incidences and also monitor their choice of words and actions.
Launch of Project Shiva (shalinis against verbal abuse): A campaign against verbal abuse
After knowing the graveness of the issue and its direct impact on society as a whole, on mutual consensus it was decided by the Shalini’s that they are not going to entertain any incidence of verbal abuse and would take required steps if they encountered the same in their lives. The campaign will address the issue of violence and disseminate relevant information through social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter etc)
Success Story
Manisha (Name Changed), a girl from lower middle class family carrying dreams to be an engineer, joined Udayan Care in 2009. Her father is a retired government employee from National Textile Corporation (U.P) Limited and mother is a house wife. Her father had limited resources since he is the only earning hand in the family of 5 people (parents and three children) and could only provide education till she completes her schooling.
The fellowship gave her wings to fly high to reach to the level she wanted to. Today, she is in her final semester of Engineering and will be joining “Wipro”(A multinational Company) as System Manager, the job which she got through her campus placement.
“I m grateful to USF for providing me immense support in my education and in making me a confident individual - Manisha (Name Changed)
