Progress Updates on Typhoon (GONI) Early Recovery Response for the Affected families in brgy. Talisay, San Andres, Quezon Province.
The consultation meeting and focus group discussion were conducted in Brgy. Cawayan, San Francisco, but in the process of assessment, CDRC and STPRC decided to implement the project in Brgy. Talisay is also a barangay in need. Brgy. Talisay, the same as Barangay Cawayan was also affected during typhoon Rolly and Ulysses. This Barangay is one of the seven barangays in the Municipality of San Andres, a fourth-class municipality in Quezon Province.
The target dates for the distributions of Farm tools, inputs, and fishing tools were rescheduled from March to June, due to the re-increase in the number of CoVid-19 cases. In March alone, at least 155, 542 new cases have been reported, making it the month with the highest number of new cases since the coronavirus pandemic started. Because of this, the National Capital Region (NCR) and provinces nearby ( Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna) or what was called “NCR Plus bubble” – were placed under a more strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Meanwhile, other provinces like Quezon doubled their Pandemic measures by not allowing entry to those coming from the NCR Plus Bubble.
Area Preparation
June 14-16, 2021, STPRC conducted an area preparation, selection of beneficiaries, validation, and distribution of claiming stubs, with the support of the UCCP Southern Tagalog Conference and with the coordination of the Municipal and Barangay Local Government Unit.
June 21, 2021 – CDRC and STPRC completed the travel requirements. Visitors from National Capital Region were required to have a Covid-19 Swab Result (NEGATIVE) and acceptance letter from the Municipality to be allowed to enter the border going to San Andres, Quezon Province.
June 22- 23, 2021, CDRC and STPRC travel to Quezon Province to conduct the Early Recovery Response in Brgy. Talisay, San Andres, Quezon Province.
Distribution of Farm tools, Inputs, fishing tools, and information materials on COVID-19 and Disaster Preparedness –
On June 24, 2021, CDRC prepared a short program to discuss the objectives of Early Recovery Response to their Barangay and introduced GlobalGiving as the organization supporting the Project. It was then followed by the distribution of farm tools, inputs, and fishing tools was conducted. COVID-19 and Disaster Preparedness information materials were also provided.
Each one of forty-five (45) farmer-beneficiaries, received a hoe and a variety of vegetable seeds (Corn, Eggplant, string beans, patola, squash, chili pepper). The 7 sprayers were handed to groups of farmers, but other farmers will be allowed to borrow/ use these sprayers. UCCP Southern Tagalog Conference is in charge of recording and scheduling the use of Sprayer. This is to ensure that the sprayers are well taken care of and all the farmers will be able to borrow these.
Sixty (60) fisherfolk- beneficiaries, received 1 kilo of nylon and 4 boxes of hook each. Similar to the farmers, those who received assistance were fisherfolks who were having difficulty buying what they need for fishing. Volunteers from UCCP and the barangay were the ones who selected the beneficiaries.
Interview of the Beneficiaries: Constancio Marfel from Inanuran of Brgy. Talisay, a fisherman said that “Whenever we are caught by strong winds in seas, we would usually leave the biwas (hooks), and when the strong winds are over, we would go back for it”.
What I have received will help me somehow. The nylon is Php. 400 (USD 8.33) per kilo and the hooks are Php.150 (USD 3.15) per box. Thank you very much for the assistance. I hope you continue to support us.
Next Plan Activities:
Post Distribution Monitoring( PDM) – Within August, the team will visit the Barangay for the Post Distribution Monitoring. This is to get feedback to the selected beneficiaries on how the Early Recovery Project helps the team to their livelihood.
Video Documentation – This is a part of the validation and capturing of the experiences in the field during the implementation.
Our team will send/ share the last and final report base on the PDM result within August. With your continued support, CDRC and STPRC were able to support 45 farmers and 65 fisherfolk. Our response will help them augment the source of their livelihood.
