Project Updates on Typhoon (GONI) Emergency Response for the Affected communities in Luzon.

During the Post Distribution on January 29, 2021, in 5 Barangays from the Municipality of San Andres, San Narciso, and San Francisco, most of the interviewed Beneficiaries shared that even in the past few months, they still have not recovered yet from the effects of last year’s typhoons (Typhoon Molave - Quinta, Typhoon Goni - Rolly, and Tropical Storm Etau -Tonyo).

On the assessment conducted by STPRC partners in Quezon last November 2020, where TY Rolly made its 3rd landfall, a total of 1,301 families are displaced from the Municipality of San Andres and San Narciso. These evacuees were temporarily sheltered in evacuation centers-mostly in school buildings, barangay offices, and churches. Severe flooding and significant damages are also reported in Daraga, Albay, Batangas City, and Laguna because of the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Rolly.

Consultation Meeting to partner Regional Center - In a virtual consultation meeting, CDRC and its regional partner, STPRC, discussed and planned the responses in Quezon Province. The team from CDRC and STPRC, with the support of local partners, needed to ensure the following; 1. Preparation of travel documents in the province namely Barangay Certification, Medical Certificate, Travel Authority from the Philippine National Police, and an Acceptance Letter from the LGU in Quezon; 2. Courtesy Call/ visit in the Municipality of San Francisco; 3. Consultation meeting with the community members; 4. Selection and validation of Beneficiaries; 5. Actual Distribution, and; 6. Post Distribution Monitoring. The team had also ensured the video documentation and Case Stories to be shared with the individual donors and to the GlobalGiving Team.

Coordination with Municipal Local Government Unit: A courtesy visit to the Municipal Administrator of San Francisco was conducted. CDRC and STPRC presented possible responses to the selected and most affected barangays in the locality. The Mayor of San Francisco was very accommodating upon the visit and accepted the Emergency and Early Recovery Responses gratefully. During the courtesy visit, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer provided the list of Barangays that needs to be prioritized - the most affected barangays. With the support of various donors in the past months, especially GLOBAL GIVING, SPTRC and CDRC were able to provide help to the affected communities.

Community Consultation meeting: The team conducted a consultation meeting with community members where farmers and fisherfolk were represented. The consultation aimed to get feedback from the community members and seek their thoughts on what are the advisable or appropriate response(s) during this period. Based on the consultation, they suggested that if possible, they would very much be appreciated to receive a means for livelihood like; 1. Farm tools,2. Vegetable Seeds, 3. Sprayers, and; 4. Fishing gears.

Schedule of Activities this March 2021

  1. Identification and Validation of Beneficiaries
  2. Canvassing and Purchasing
  3. Actual Conduct of Distribution
  4. Post Distribution Monitoring
  5. Video Documentation and Case Story

Our team will send another report and provide updates after the actual distribution within this month (March). With your continued support, our team and partners once again were able to support the communities in dire need of assistance who as well, are coping with the negative effects of previous and current disasters.
