Our partner, Banilad Center for Professional Development, has been devastated by Typhoon Odette (also known as Rai). Their school was partly destroyed by falling trees and strong winds, and students have now been left homeless due to heavy flooding. Staff have already mobilised to give emergency support. With your help, we can begin rebuilding the school and provide women in the Philippines with safe shelter and scholarships, so that they can recover from this disaster and continue learning.
Typhoon Odette hit the Philippines on December 16, causing over 200 deaths and widespread destruction. Our partner in Cebu City, Banilad Center for Professional Development, has been badly hit by the storm. The campus where women study has been destroyed. Many students have been left homeless as their accommodation flooded, and some walls were blown away by the wind. Additionally, many women will have to use the finances they set aside for education to help their families recover.
With your support, we can ensure that the devastating impacts of the storm won't mean the end of a woman's education. Your donation can help us rebuild the school and the student accommodations, so women have a safe environment to learn and live in. You can also help women return to their studies by giving scholarships to those who can no longer afford tuition due to a loss of income or savings caused by the storm, and by providing them with resources to ensure their well-being.
Banilad Center for Professional Development equips students from urban and rural poverty for the workplace. Students are enabled to break the cycle of poverty through training in hospitality and culinary arts, coupled with effective mentoring and personal development. Over the years, close to 100% of graduates have secured full-time employment within one month of graduation. By rebuilding the school & supporting students, you can help women in the Philippines build a better life for themselves.
