On February 5, 2022, CDRC staff with ICRED, our local partners in Ilocos Region conducted a focus group discussion with selected community members in Brgy. Alaska. The Participants were grouped into three with 10 each team composed of women, fisherfolk, seniors, and youth. CDRC staff facilitated the FGD while the staff from ICRED helped the team with the translation from their local language ( Ilokano) to Tagalog and vice versa.

The activity aimed to draw from the participants their needs 5 months after TY Maring "Kompasu" hit their community.

The team prepared the questions and all the participants were encouraged to share what they experienced during the typhoon.

FGD Results:

1. Did you receive any help/support after TY Maring "Kompasu"? - Most of the participants shared that they received relief goods from different organizations, public and private, but what they received was only took a week to consume.

2. Was the assistance received was enough/sufficient? - They received 2 kilos of rice, some instant noodles from politicians, and others provided 5kls of rice. While the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided10 kilos of rice, instant coffee, etc.

3. Current/present needs? - A. Participants collectively agreed that they need support in the form of monetary aid, especially for those whose fishing livelihood got affected during the typhoon. B. Difficulty in the access of potable water; only 2 households in Sitio Nagpanawan have a water line, while the rest of the households were getting water from the well. C. Only two public toilets are available in the area, one of those toilets was broken.
