Super Typhoon Mangkhut (known locally as Ompong) has made landfall with winds as high as 170 miles an hour. This fund will support relief efforts in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine. If necessary, this fund will also support longer-term recovery assistance to help residents recover and rebuild. All donations to this fund will exclusively support Super Typhoon Mangkhut preparation, relief, and recovery efforts in the Philippines.
Thousands of people have evacuated their homes and gathered emergency supplies in preparation for the storm's damaging path. Several of GlobalGiving's local nonprofit partners are preparing to respond and have asked us to help fund any necessary relief and recovery efforts on the ground.
All donations to this fund will support Typhoon Mangkhut preparation, recovery, and relief efforts. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once any initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support any necessary longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations responding to this forecasted disaster.
We believe that organizations that are deeply-rooted in local communities are best positioned to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like typhoons. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, there's potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges. GlobalGiving will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors.
