Dear Friends,
Warm greetings from Leyte. Our vegetable gardening initiative is in full swing as we are able to gather and distribute seeds from the vegetable production farms implemented by some of our beneficiaries located in Mahayahay, Ormoc City. We pay for the seeds to give incentive to the producer and then we distribute them. This reporting period we are able to distribute a total of 350 seed packets to 116 gardeners who are mostly youths. A documentary group based in Manila came to take photo-video documentation as well as interviews to some of the the beneficiaries. This I consider very great because it will popularize our work. Then together with a partner here in Leyte, the Samaritan's Purse, we implemented a vegetable gardening contest with our beneficiaries located in Palo, Tanuan and Tacloban, with prizes comprising household utensils, rice and grocery items. All participants were provided with nice certificates as their remembrance. A volunteer from Global Giving - UK, Eleanor Moodey visited some of the gardens and beneficiaries and interviewed some of them.
Our next activity will be to secure some root crops planting materials comprising sweet potato, taro and cassava from nearby root crops center at the Visayas State University in Baybay in order to augment vegetable gardening of the beneficiaries.
Again, thank you very much.
Very truly yours,
Cora
