We would like to construct a well in Northern Uganda at a school that currently has no source of clean water. This post conflict area urgently needs help with rebuilding after decades of war.
For over 20 years Northern Uganda was brutalized by a terror campaign waged on it's people by the terror group the LRA. Crimes against the villagers included mass murder and the kidnaping of children who were then forced to become child soldiers. These children need help, a lot of the village schools were forced to close by the conflict and now that the war is over these schools need to be rebuilt. Getting the schools clean water and sanitation is the first step in helping these children.
Life can not exist without water, yet we often see schools of 1000 children or more that have no source of clean water. In sub-Saharan Africa, 80% of illnesses are related to the lack of access to clean water. Water wells are an effective solution.
The task of collecting water for the family usually falls on the children, especially the girls. Building wells at schools allows these children to get an education rather than spending hours of their day fetching water.
