"When will we go to Soundhome Center?"

Wei-wei, a child with moderate hearing loss, had attended the communication training program offered by Soundhome Center since his early treatment, yet Wei-wei had not attended the Soundhome Center programs or activities for three or four years since he went to elementary school.

With going to middle grade, Wei-wei became less and less confident in studying Math and Chinese, which were getting more and more difficult. Wei-weis mother thought of the Soundhome Center, bringing him back to Soundhome and asked for the help from social workers of the Center.

The social worker suggested to arrange Wei-wei in this Winter Camp as a start-up. At the very beginning, Wei-wei was so unfamiliar with other students that he usually showed very quiet and shy. Luckily, however, with the company from the social workers and other students, Wei-wei opened his mind and got himself involved in peers gradually. Wei-wei kept joining the weekend academic tutoring program after the semester began. With the patience of the teachers from Soundhome Center, Wei-wei had obvious progress in academic learning and showed less fear with studying Math. What made his mothers happy was that Wei-wei not only made a lot of good friends at Soundhome Center but also learned how to take care of himself.

Wei-wei shows up at the Center when weekend comes. Before summer or winter vacation arrives, he also gets excited to ask his mother “when will we go to Soundhome Center?”

There are 30 hard of hearing students like Wei-wei attending the programs at Soundhome Center successively from January 2017. Staying with these hard of hearing children and watching them learning, playing and growing up, these are what we remain committed to do.
