The semester of the Soundhome Center begins in September, and 15 hard-of-hearing students, coming from the neighboring counties such as Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua, join our tutorial programs every weekend this season.

Four fifth (Eighty percent) of the 15 students are severe hearing impairment. They need to rely on hearing aids and learn to read lips to process the speech of the teachers; they could possibly not follow the lectures unless they make a lot of efforts. However, for the teaching progress, it is hard for most school teachers to moderate the pace to meet these hard of hearing students’ needs. The weekend tutorial programs of Soundhome Center provide the students with the lectures lagging in school learning, and special education teachers and social workers here would help them.

During this class, 40% of the students coming from poor families, 20% of them with single parents, and 6% of them are from intergenerational families. Moreover, two of the students have other family members with disabilities. The Soundhome Center understands the parents who educate hard of hearing children usually undertake a lot of pressures emotionally and financially. Therefore, we make the governmental resources and public fundraising combined, assisting hard of hearing students to overcome the learning obstacles,  and also reducing the pressure of the parents.
