Your wonderful support during GlobalGiving UK's fundraising challenge, that Children's Helpers Worldwide (CHW) took part in in June and July, has been keeping Refugiu's tutoring and mentoring scheme going in Romania! The 19 children and teenagers who are part of this programme, live in poverty and most of them have only one living parent. They have faced a lot of difficulties in their lives already. Your help means they are getting some much-needed extra support, through Refugiu's programmes.
Robert, the Head of Refugiu, has sent some updates on how the children are doing. Gabriela, aged 9, has had a great report from her teacher! She had not been enrolled in school last year, but she attended the tutoring sessions regularly. She is now in first grade and her teacher said she is surprised at how much knowledge Gabriela has, seeing that she had not been to preschool or kindergarten. This is a direct result of great tutoring Gabriela has received through Refugiu's programme. Thank you to each and every supporter who has made this possible!
The children were able to have new school supplies and clothes at the beginning of the term. Robert gave the following news: " Shopping bought much joy to the children. They were very happy because they had no hope for new clothes, shoes, bags and some supplies… Even the journey to Brasov [the nearest city] was so joyful… Romi and Remus [two siblings] felt so special that they had received new clothes… The widow with three children [another family helped by Refugiu] told me they would not have had any chance to buy something for school. She was praying for help. I was very happy that WE can help them.”
Thank you for supporting Refugiu's programmes and for making it possible for these very disadvantaged children and teenagers to have this extra help. Your kindness and generosity is helping them with their education and this is giving them the chance of a brighter future. Thank you.
