It has been a fun-packed term for the kids at the Fountains of Hope School in Kibera. Every week the children enjoy art, music and drama lessons as well as sports on our small playing area alongside their lessons in the core subjects of Maths, Science, English, Swahili and Social Studies.
But thats not all, earlier this term the kids went to a local international school, Kenton College, for a fun day where they did arts and crafts painting plant pots, games and sports with the kids in the school. Later in the week the whole school went to the Giraffe Centre here in Nairobi to see live Giraffes. They learnt all about the giraffes, fed them and even kissed them! The kids took time to draw the giraffes and warthogs as part of their Noah's Ark art project. This trip was facilitated by volunteers from Serge who have been teaching art in the school every week.
At the Fountains of Hope school we aim to nurture our pupil's curiosity and creativity with new experiences like these trips and we're so grateful to the volunteers and partnering schools who have made these experiences possible.
This balance between fun and games and hard work seems to be paying off. After the mid-term exams held earlier in the year, the teachers reported good progress in the student's grades and were very pleased with how the kids are getting on.
