Growing Through The Game

By Marilynn Akinyi | Communications Assistant

Larry and Friends.
Larry and Friends.

When Larry first joined the education programme, he often struggled with focus and discipline—both in class and on the playground. He was bright and energetic but had difficulty channelling that energy productively. Through consistent mentorship and his integration into the Cheza Sports Academy program, Larry began to find direction.

On the field, he discovered lessons that reached far beyond football. Through teamwork drills and guided reflection sessions, Larry learned the importance of self-control, respect, and patience. His decision-making on the ball improved remarkably, and his understanding of positioning and teamwork became more refined. During July’s friendly matches, his calm composure helped his team maintain defensive shape, a sign of his growing maturity and confidence. Coaches now see him as a player ready for greater competitive opportunities—and as a role model for his peers.

The transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed in the classroom either. Larry’s class teacher, Mr. Moses, shares:

“Larry has changed so much since joining the Cheza program. He’s more focused, respectful, and takes real responsibility for his learning. You can tell that the discipline he’s building on the field is showing up in his schoolwork too. He’s not just doing better academically—he’s growing into a thoughtful young man.”

Larry’s story is one of many that show how holistic education—combining academics, mentorship, and extracurricular activities—can unlock a child’s full potential.

Your continued support makes stories like Larry’s possible . By giving towards the education programme, you help transform not just how children learn, but who they become—confident, capable, and ready to shape a brighter future for themselves and those around them.
