The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Southeast Turkiye (Turkey) and Northwest Syria in February 2023 has created an unprecedented level of damage in the region. Survivors have been left devastated as every aspect of daily life has been affected. Relief International teams are providing emergency relief but can only do so with your help.
The immediate and longer-term needs for people living here are immense. Thousands of homes have been destroyed from the earthquake. Water, electricity and gas supplies have been destroyed or turned off to avoid potential explosions. Families do not know where they will find their next meal. Survivors have been forced to seek shelter anywhere they can, risking hypothermia as they deal with below freezing conditions.
Relief International already has 300 staff members & 30 medical facilities in the region supporting as many survivors as possible. Our doctors & medical staff work around the clock to assist those injured in the earthquake and save lives. As of February 13, 2023, Relief International began distributing basic relief supplies such as blankets and shelter items to communities in Hatay, Turkey. We are currently organizing procurement and distributions of essential supplies to neighboring provinces.
The destruction caused by the earthquake is widespread. It will take years for communities in the region to recover. Relief International is on the ground providing emergency relief today. Tomorrow, when the crisis subsides, we will work alongside community members to recover and rebuild.
