Summary

Support population by sending and distributing essential goods (food, water, medicines, medical aids, personal hygiene products, blankets, tents and cots) Support local hospitals and medical teams, supplying emergency medical equipment and material. Our front line work involves collaboration with local partners and on-site volunteers and the dispatchment of doctors and medical specialists for specific interventions. We are setting up a base point in Kilis for the distribution of basic goods

Challenge

Following the earthquake of Feb 6th, the death toll reported by local authorities is about 16,000. Hundreds of families, out of fear and necessity, are sleeping outdoor. People need water, food, medical care, protection and real shelter. Many are injured and need urgent care. Right now, local authorities are focusing their efforts on searching and rescuing people under the rubble. Thousands of buildings are destroyed. Families are in need of food, medicine, water, blankets.

Solution

The Fountation is collaborating with local partners for the distribution of food, water and basic goods in Kilis and in the meantime assessing the general housing safety to allow people to return home if possible. For those with no accommodation an emergency shelter will be provided. The Fondation is also planning to bring similar help to Gaziantep and Syria and has activated a specific emergency cooperation protocol with the Italian Navy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for future local help

Long-Term Impact

Fondazione Francesca Rava's contribution is focused in covering the immediate needs of the survivors in terms of food, water, medicine, fuel and shelter. As further needs will emerge, Fondazione Francesca Rava is committed to sourcing and dispatching medicines and medical supplies as requested by area hospitals, as well as basic necessities for the population. The Fondation efforts are targeted, rational and local. Medical equipment will then remain with the hospitals to which it is donated.
