The next step in supporting earthquake survivors in Turkey is to provide trauma-informed care to reduce severe physical pain and traumatic stress. This September, AWB is sending a health care team to the Antalya region of Turkey where over 50,000 survivors are relocated. In partnership with local organizations, we will provide at least 5,000 acupuncture treatments and train local physicians to perform ear acupuncture for traumatic stress and pain reduction. Our field team is ALL VOLUNTEER.
Millions of people, including refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people, are traumatized and struggling to find access to health services in southern Turkey and northern Syria after the world's deadliest seismic event in more than a decade. Your donation to this fund will help AWB carry out a service mission to Turkey and train practitioners on the ground to ensure long-term trauma relief efforts.
All donations to this fund will support recovery efforts by allowing us to provide trauma-informed care and relief to thousands. The funds will directly fund capacity-building and implementation efforts on the ground, so that we can ensure that people will continue to access care after we are gone.
AWB's goal is to train 10-20 Turkish physicians to provide ear acupuncture for stress and trauma. Additionally, we hope to train 10-20 nurses and manual therapists to provide ear seed treatments (where tiny seeds are painlessly applied to acu-points on the ear, especially useful for treating children). Training local providers increases the likelihood of ongoing service delivery which will have a long-term positive impact on the health and wellbeing of earthquake survivors.
