Jambo Friends!
It has been one week since I returned from Nairobi where I trained 4 TB ACTION Group staff members in the methodology and implementation of TB Photovoice. During our 4 day training I witnessed their transformation as they took photos in their community and shared them with the group a deep, personal level. These photos and the stories behind why they took these pictures truly illustrated how they perceive their community and their hopes for TB prevention and treatment. The trainees began to see the power behind documenting their own feelings and perceptions, which they will faciliate with two groups in Nakuru. Their creativity in their photos, the metaphors they shared were profound. The power to move into action was palpable! I know they are ready to encourage the Nakuru groups to find their voices and share their perspectives.
Last year at this time, training a new group in Kenya was a lofty goal for our small but determined TB Photovoice organization. Thanks to your support and encouragement, the Kenyan group is trained and ready to take the steps necessary to amplify the voices of persons impacted by tuberculosis. We are looking forward to sharing their progress with you as well as setting our sights creating new sites, while supporting our existing partners.

Moving ahead with Kenyan Photovoice

Dear TB Photovoice supporters,
We are so happy to share the news that we are moving forward with a new TB photovoice group in Kenya. Working with our partners, Nairobi based TB Action Group, we are working out the logistics for training and implementation. They are so enthusiastic and motivated to utilize the concept of photovoice within the Nakuru community, which is the provincial capital of Kenya's Rift Valley province. TB Action Group has an established group of persons affected by TB which is tremendously helpful to their recruitment process and will allow them to move quickly to learning about the power that their stories and photos can bring to them personal and within their community. The lessons that TB Photovoice has learned through their other sites in Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, South Africa, the Philippines, and the United States is proving to be invaluable as we tailor the implementation of photovoice in Kenya.
Our new, improved website is on the verge of being launched and we are looking forward to sharing our experiences and successes with you. You are part of an amazing organization that is creatively addressing the root causes of poverty and we greatly appreciate your support and involvement.

Building a Foundation for the Future

Dear Friends,
Please take a moment to feel the gratitude TB Photovoice extends to you for your support at so many levels. We are so fortunate to be in partnership with you and are happy to share how our programs are progressing.
For the past three months, TB Photovoice has been collaborating with our partners in Kenya and Zambia, setting the foundation for a strong project in each country. Relationship building is the key to our success as we explore how best to implement the power of photovoice in each unique community. It takes time, open minds and hearts to establish a project that will get to the root causes of TB and empower individuals to unleash their voices for the betterment of their families and communities.
We are hopeful that we will receive the necessary resources to fully see these two project through but your guidance and support during this journey is critical. Perhaps you can help today by offering $25 to provide 3 single use cameras to a TB Photovoice participant.
Our website over haul is almost complete! We thank the tireless volunteer work of Jose Sosa for this endeavor. Since TB Photovoice is a 100% volunteer run organization, we rely on volunteers like Jose who take the time to assist our overall efforts because they value our work and have many talents to share.
Thank you for recognizing the need for persons impacted by TB to have their voices heard, and for believing in us as we share training tools and support for communities around the world. Your kindness is felt by us all.
