We are filling each of these long summer days to the max at Project POOCH with our current crop of adoptable pups enjoying playing in pools, sprinklers, learning new cues from their handlers, and lounging in the sun.
Our POOCH youth have been diligently working on training the pups and building their own job and life skills. 16 youth have participated in our program this year, with 9 youth currently on the POOCH team. The youth have put in more than 6,200 hours at the POOCH kennel—walking, training, earning certifications, and caring for pups. We have worked with 15 POOCH dogs, and seen 8 adoptions, 24 boarding dogs with us for a total of 224 boarding nights, and 18 daycare dogs for 318 daycare days. All in all, we have worked with 51 unique dogs this year, from 5lbs to 128lbs!
It's been a challenging year for us with medical issues cropping up for several of our pups. Austin gave us quite a scare back in April when he needed to be rushed to the emergency vet due lethargy, vomiting, and weight loss. We were concerned for a few days we might lose him. But with a lot of special care, he has made a full recovery. Next up is finding his forever home!
Viola, one of our longest term dogs this year, went home after 202 days at POOCH. The youth put in a lot of effort to help her become the best version of herself, and we are sending her off with a full heart for a lifetime of adventuring, play, and tons of snuggles.
