In Avdiivka, a frontline city in eastern Ukraine, a pregnant cat gave birth under shelling and barely survived. With no veterinary help, soldiers saved her and three kittens. Stories like this are now common. This project delivers veterinary care - sterilization, vaccination, parasite treatment, and emergency aid - to animals cut off by war.
War has devastated eastern Ukraine's cities and villages. Veterinary clinics near the frontline are damaged or closed. Stray and abandoned animals give birth in ruins, basements, and trenches. Soldiers and elderly residents often become their only caretakers, sharing scarce food but lacking access to sterilization or vaccines. This project brings veterinary teams to provide spay/neuter, vaccination, and urgent care - reducing new litters, preventing rabies, and easing suffering.
Our veterinarians provide spay/neuter surgeries to stop new litters, vaccinate animals against rabies and other diseases, treat injuries and infections, and deliver parasite control. We work with local volunteers, soldiers, and residents who care for animals, ensuring access to services where none exist. By combining sterilization, vaccination, and emergency care, we reduce suffering, prevent disease, and stabilize animal populations in war-affected areas.
One sterilization can prevent hundreds of animals from being born into war. One rabies vaccine protects entire neighborhoods. Over time, our work reduces stray populations, relieves overwhelmed shelters, and builds resilient veterinary partnerships in conflict-affected regions. With sustained support, we replace crisis cycles with stability, safety, and lasting protection for animals living on the frontline.
